The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed that a military dog went missing during a mission.

According to the BBC, the dog belonged to a coalition partner of the United States military and was working for British forces.

The dog was apparently captured during an intense firefight with the coalition forces trying to drive the Taliban out of the Alingar Valley.

Two months later, Taliban insurgents released a video of the Belgian Malinois working dog, who they called Colonel. The colonel was the first dog that had been taken prisoner in Afghanistan.
