Taliban Captures Military Dog And Holds Him Hostage As A Prisoner Of War

While dogs are not considered pets in Afghan culture and are seen as dirty, the Taliban has held Colonel to high standards, since he is a trained working dog – something they’d never be able to do on their own.

While British special operations forces volunteered to find Colonel, it’s unknown if he was ever rescued, since the British Defence Ministry has called the mission “unlikely.”

While a Prisoner of War, Colonel has been nominated for the Dickin Medal, which is the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.
